Ever keen to hit the road, when Editor Gregg suggested a journey to the Big Red Bash Heather and I signed up immediately.
Having never been to Birdsville, it was a great opportunity to see some of that country even if the planned departure date coincided with our return from a 15,000km adventure to Western Australia including tackling the Canning Stock Route, across the Katherine and down the centre to Melbourne.
Jayco and Goldstream came to the party with accommodation for the trip while Isuzu added to their long-term test vehicle with a second D-Max and an M-UX. The crew was to comprise deputy editor, Sue Wyeth, in the M-UX towing a Jayco Swan Outback Camper, editor Gregg Haythorpe in the project D-Max towing a Jayco Expanda caravan and us in a D-Max towing a Goldstream 1760 Pop Top.
It gave us a good mix of vans and campers and it would be interesting to see what it was like living with the various styles over two and a half weeks and 5000km away from home.
