Emu Beach Holiday Park

405km south of Perth

Albany, with its dramatic coastal scenery, has always been on everyone’s must see list. Now that the view across King George Sound is also imbued with the sadness and heroism of the World War I Gallipoli landing, it has become an even more popular tourist destination. November 2014 saw the opening of the National Anzac Centre, which commemorates Albany being the final departure point for the first ANZAC troop ships on their way to Europe.

Emu Beach Holiday Park is located right on the shore of King George Sound in a secluded, beachside area just 6km from the centre of Albany. The caravan park is literally metres from the beach. Nearby are the secluded waters of Oyster Harbour, which enters the Sound at Emu Point, where there is a cafe and a grassed picnic area. Here you can fish, or swim in the calm bay, or just take in the view and observe the pelicans. There are more waterbirds at Lake Seppings, which is adjoining the road into Emu Point. A 3km walking path surrounds the lake which is 1km in length.

With so many different environments to explore, Emu Point is a special place. You can walk south along the beach towards Middleton Beach and Mt Clarence and take in the amazing views across the King George Sound. Or clamber over the rocks at the northern end of the beach to the narrow entrance to Oyster Harbour. There are paved paths in both directions for walkers and cyclists and the cycle path goes all the way into Albany.

Emu Beach Holiday Park has all the facilities that you would expect to find at a Big4 park. Shade is provided by tall peppermint trees and the sites are laid out neatly in rows which are divided by colourful gardens. The park is grassed, with some sites having a hard surface for the annexe. The tent area has its own separate enclosed camp kitchen, while a big barbecue area is the centrepiece of the main part of the park. This large covered space provides shelter from the southerly wind, while still being open and airy. Within this brightly painted building there is lots of seating and tables, and campers often gather here at happy hour.

There are some fun things for kids in the park, including a large shaded playground, a jumping pillow and a mini golf course. During the school holidays, there is a kids’ club and movies are shown twice a day in a theatre room.
