Incredible Carnarvon

A tropical oasis in Qld

The plan was after spending a few days exploring all that Welford National Park had to offer we were to head deeper into Queensland’s stunning Channel Country visiting Diamantina National Park and maybe even find some dinosaurs along the way, or at least the footprints of some. However as with many of our trips Mother Nature had other plans. Travelling as we do your itinerary has to be flexible and sometimes the new plans end up just as good as the originals.

Following a rather soggy night in Blackall a new plan and itinerary was hatched. Heading to Emerald for a night we then decided to venture south to a place that had been on our radar for quite some time, Carnarvon National Park. Our plan was to spend a few nights at Carnarvon Gorge, primarily a day to hike the gorge then head further south taking in another section of the national park, Mount Moffatt.

Along the way we got side tracked visiting Minerva Hills National Park. Located just out of Springsure this little known park is trumped by its outstanding scenery. A 4WD is recommended due to the rough nature of the tracks in the park but the views from the tops of the ridge are simply stunning and well worth the short but rough diversion. We easily negotiated the park’s main track and again were not disappointed by the views or scenery on offer here.
