Caravan Parks have sure come a long way in recent years with a range of features on offer that sometimes defies the imagination. However all the fancy features and attractions can’t compete with that very simple rule of real estate LOCATION LOCATION and the Tweed Coast has a few top parks in truly great locations.
The OTR team was recently travelling through the northern coastal regions of NSW en route to the Queensland Caravan and Camping Show and had the luck and pleasure of spending a couple of days at the beautiful Fingal Holiday Park just south of Tweed Heads. This park would score a near perfect TEN for its stunning location beginning with being found right on a great ocean beach just north of the Surf Life Saving club. From your caravan or park cabin you are greeted with dazzling views to Cook Island just offshore and the spectacular rocky headland that is Fingal Head. Fingal as you may have guessed is named after the mythical Celtic giant (legend has it) that built the famous Giants Causeway in Ireland. A walk out to the Tweeds Fingal Head and you can see the Australian version albeit on a smaller scale, it’s a walk well worth the effort. The park is not massive but has on offer a great selection of accommodation options from your basic unpowered tent site up to first class recently renovated Letitia Cabins. They also offer a Surfari Tent accommodation option that can sleep four for that something a little different, throw in a children’s play park, music nights and the park has most of the bases well covered. However it’s that beachfront location that is the real winner for me – no matter what accommodation option you need and no matter what site you are on within the park the beach is always there on your doorstep, it’s magic.
With first class surfing on offer, a patrolled beach, good beach fishing and great walks around the headland and you start to understand why this caravan park location is a sure fire winner.
The Tweed Coast has plenty to offer the RV traveller (see break out box) and top class parks like Fingal with its brilliant location make a stay either short stay or longer duration a great experience. The park mangers Wayne and Narelle will ensure your visit is one to remember and we suggest you drop in and try it for yourself, I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
Pottsville South Holiday Park
In our short stay on the Tweed Coast we also had the chance to drop in at the Pottsville South Holiday Park where Matt and Stacey took some time out to show us the park. Again its location is waterfront, only this time it’s not ocean beachfront but rather the picture-postcard vision of the quintessential seaside holiday park destination on a beautiful ocean feed creek (Mooball Creek). With sites and cabins right on the creek waterfront this small but perfectly located park is special.
The park is in top class condition; Matt and Stacey have quite simply done a great job, again with plenty of accommodation options on offer including cabins. If you are looking for the surf then that’s just a short walk via the bridge to the ocean beach. The creek offers swimming, fishing and paddling.
The other great thing about the Pottsville South Park is that the small town and village centre of Pottsville with its shops and cafes is also just walking distance away so no need to fire up the vehicle.
Pottsville also has a very good market on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month with a great selection of fresh farm produce, plants, sweet treats and arts and crafts. The market is like most things, just a quick walk from the park and makes for a good time for all.
With a top class camp kitchen right on the water’s edge, a beach wheelchair for use and its unrivalled location, this park like its northern neighbour are great examples of what the best parks can offer the travelling or holidaying public.
