With many hotspots, attractions, and experiences, it can be tricky to decide where in Australia to venture next. For RV explorers seeking true outback experiences, North West Queensland has plenty to offer, from the rough and tumble of rodeos to the ancient world of fossils and of course, classic outback pubs.

North West Queensland spans a great area, from the exciting mining town of Mount Isa in the west, to Richmond and Hughenden in the east. Home to iconic outback experiences such as Undara Volcanic National Park and Riversleigh Fossil Fields, you soon realise North West Queensland is a region rich in history and culture.

If you are travelling from the south, the most direct route to North West Queensland is via the Landsborough Hwy (Matilda Way) through Barcaldine, Longreach, and Winton. If you are coming from the coast, you can travel via the Capricorn Hwy from Rockhampton and then join the Matilda Way at Barcaldine. Coming from Townsville it is the Flinders Hwy (Overlanders Way) through Charters Towers and if you are visiting the region from the Northern Territory you can travel along the Barkly Hwy or the Savannah Way.
